Biography
Ferhan Otay (1968) born in Waalwijk, The Netherlands started playing the guitar at the age of eight.
At first he was a Jimi Hendrix-inspired musician. In his search for improvisation he became more and more influenced by jazz music.
In 1990 he decided to become a professional player and started to study at the Brabants Conservatory. He studied with Peter Mingaars, John Abercrombie and Peter Hertmans. He graduated succesfully in 1995.
After his graduation he took classes from David Tronzo and Kurt Rosenwinkel. As a professional Ferhan has given concerts with many musicians in different countries (a few names...Jasper Blom, Eric Vloeimans, Paul van Kemenade, Anton Goudsmit, Heyn vd Geyn, Dré Pallemaerts, Hans van Oosterhout, Mete Erker, Jeroen van Vliet, Marius Beets, Jesse van Ruller, Martijn Vink, Frans Van der Hoeven, Stefan Lievestro, Carlo de Wijs, Erwin Vann, Nono Fernandez, Maarten vd Grinten, Jorge Rossy and lots of others).
At this moment Ferhan leads his own quartet with Harmen Fraanje(piano),Gulli Gudmundsson (bass) and Pascal Vermeer(drums). With Onno Witte(drums) he formed a new group called WO-IV with the great Anton Goudsmit on guitar and Guus Bakker on bass. Another group Ferhan plays in is the KOV trio with Arno Krijger (one of the few hammond organists who plays the bass with his left foot) and
Pascal Vermeer on drums.
And last but not least the Joni Mitchell
project leaded by Mete Erker with Wies Ingwersen
on vocals and Fer van Duuren percussion.
